Communities in the hills of Nepal heavily rely on spring water for various purposes, but springs are disappearing and drying up due to factors like mal-development practices, changing water use patterns, and haphazard road construction. The lack of understanding and management at the springshed exacerbates the issue. Excessive groundwater extraction in valleys further contributes to the decline of spring. To address these challenges, initiatives focusing on comprehensive mapping, community-led efforts, and national campaigns are crucial for conserving and restoring springs rejuvenation programmes across Nepal.
